Once known as the Executive Towers, a tired hotel across the street from the Denver Center for Performing Arts, Sage’s the Curtis – a DoubleTree by Hilton hotel is one of our greatest transformations and most fun success stories.

The Challenge

Sage acquired the Executive Suites in 2006 as the redeveloper of the project. The exhausted hotel needed a full renovation and the space was not playing up to its excellent location on 14th Street across from Denver’s performing arts complex. Post-renovation and rebrand to the Curtis Hotel, Sage saw the opportunity to tie the hotel to a soft branded concept in 2010. Hilton brought on their DoubleTree concept in a very rare soft-branding situation, unique to their business model.

The Solution

The Curtis was one of Sage’s original brand concepts. The retro and consistently happy feel of the Curtis drove the redesign of the hotel to include themed floors, as well as one of the nation’s only 13th floors, appropriately themed the DUN, DUN, DUUUUUNNNN floor. In 2010 Sage saw the opportunity to increase distribution through a Hilton partnership and in 2011, Sage sold the hotel to Fundamental Advisors. This sale led to a 4,200 square foot ballroom and 2,000 square foot outdoor venue addition. In 2015 the Curtis was sold to AllianceBernstein. Sage Hospitality has retained the management contract through each sale and continues to reinforce the “Stay Happy” theme throughout the staff and hotel.
